66. Dark, cold days

Well, Christmas came and went. We had a good time and managed not to over indulge too much. Our new batteries are working well and we've not lost power since. The only drawback being we're not dumping as much electricity into the hot water due to our increased capacity so having a bath is quite a rare event. We have pushed the boat out though and used the shower in the cabin. It's runs off the gas bottle so we're as quick as we can but it is heavenly particularly to then be able to step out to a lovely warm room rather than freeze in the house.

I'm in hibernation mode but am trying. We've been setting the alarm for 7 as otherwise because it's so dark we get up late and don't seem to get much done. I light the fire straight away and we do 20 minutes yoga which really seems to help the day start better.
I cleared the last few dead tomato plants out of the polytunnel and used a wet brush to clean the plastic, it looks much better. Still very wet though, there's a stream running down the middle of it.
We decided to go across the Loch early this morning to fetch some bags of sand and gravel. There's still tonnes of it, I'm convinced they're magically filling up again everytime we take some out. We have help at the moment though as Rich youngest daughter and her boyfriend are staying with us. A very cold trip across, I had to pull the boat rope out of the frozen snow. We did a couple of trips across with as many bags as the boat could take. I reversed Hector (electric vehicle) down the jetty and we loaded the trailer. It all went a bit downhill then as we noticed one of the trailer wheels was flat. Then as I was pulling it up the track the tow bar snapped off Hector so we didn't actually manage to get the sand and gravel up here although Rich did manage it on a second attempt by putting half the bags in the back of Hector. The trailer is still down at the jetty.
Rich has started to, with help, further dismantle the house. He's moved the bath and taken more of the floorboards out. I'm hoping when we can properly see the space we'll agree on the best way to divide it. I'm still hopeful for big moves forward with the house this year.
Happy New Year ❤️
