10. Shopping trip

We decided to go to Inverness for our weekly shop this week. We'd left the car parked at Badrallach as we'd walked in last time. It's been really windy recently so we've not felt confident enough to take our boat out. Plus when we actually got round to reading the book which Rich was given on his boating course it said to only go out in up to a force 3 which we think is about 8 miles an hour, it's been going up to about 40 mph! We managed to arrange a lift back with the post-boat on the school run at 2.30 but as that didn't give us much time to get to Inverness and back we had to set off early.
Getting up in the cold and dark at 4.30 didn't feel like fun! We set off at 5am taking the quad down to the gate where the track to Badrallach starts. This knocks about a mile off the journey although bouncing on the quad just after breakfast could easily be vomit - inducing. We did the walk in the dark with the wind and rain lashing down on us. We used the torches on our mobiles to see the track and pick out the least boggiest way round the constant puddles. We eventually got to the car at 7.15, what a relief to get in and get warm. It was finally getting light, there's now snow on the mountain tops. Driving along the single track to get to the main road we saw deer, some beautiful big stags and a red squirrel crossed the road in front of us.
We did our shopping, grabbed a bit of lunch then drove to the jetty at Badluarach. Carrying backpacks heavy with food and carriers in both hands we boarded the post-boat. The sea was rough, I wouldn't have fancied trying it in our boat. Arriving at the jetty on Scoraig it was a relief to find Graeme had kindly fetched the quad for us so we hadn't got to carry our shopping back, it could all go in the trailer. I'm trying to stock up on food for winter for when it's too rough to get out. Next time we go I'm hoping to buy larger bags of flour so they'll last longer. I'm also getting dried beans and grains. One of our aims is to try to eat a healthier diet. One of the advantages here is if you haven't got it in you can't just nip out to get it!
