The days are lighter and longer although it's still been cold with northerly and easterly winds. It's meant to improve this week though and at least the winds keep the midges away.
The tomato plants are all in the polytunnel as are the squashes. The courgettes failed to show so I bought new seed and they're just starting to come through. Most of the bedding plants are in the vegetable patch, I took a chance as it wasn't really warm enough but they were getting leggy and taking up rather a lot of room in the cabin. The sweet peas were rather shocked but they're just starting to perk up so hopefully as it gets warmer they'll start to thrive.
We went away to Spain at the end of April to celebrate my 60th birthday. We had a wonderful time and it was lovely to feel the warmth of the sun. It was a shock getting off the plane at Edinburgh to a cold wind and rain.
It was good to get home again, it's always a shock to my back to be constantly walking on pavements and we did a lot of walking although we did visit some beautiful gardens so it was worth it.
My eldest son has come to stay so we've once again had some much needed help with the house. We've had another big order of building materials, blocks, sand and gravel etc. It's nearly all over this side of the Loch now and fingers crossed we'll only need a couple more orders before we're finished. There's still a long way to go but I think the balance is finally tipping in our favour. We've now been here almost 9 years so we've gone slightly over time on the 1 year we thought it'd take us!! But because we've had time to really think about it I feel we've made better decisions than if we'd rushed. It took so long to decide where to put the stairs and the positioning of the upstairs rooms. Instead of 3 small bedrooms and no bathroom it's going to be 1 bedroom and a decent sized bathroom and landing.
The extension has barely begun but Rich keeps assuring me it won't take too long once it gets started. I'm not pushing, it's such hard work and there's a definite advantage to having patience and letting things come to fruition in their own time.
We've cut lots of gorse down this year, we're slowly getting rid of it. It got such a hold of both the garden and the croft before we moved here. But it makes good firewood and because we've had so much help this year the wood stores are filling nicely.
I can't believe we're nearly halfway through the year, it always seems to gather pace once January and February have gone. Hopefully it'll slow down a bit so we can enjoy the summer which is due to arrive soon 🤞
