58. Covid

Well we finally succumbed!! With the best of intentions we went down to the Midlands to visit family and came back with covid. I started with it while we were down there and just wanted to be home. Thankfully Rich managed all the driving by himself. I just had to prop myself up in the passenger seat.
Dragging the boat into the water isn't easy at the best of times but with both of us ill I'm not quite sure how we managed it, grim determination I think!!
Once back I was convinced I'd make an instant recovery but it wasn't to be. Its now 2 weeks since I started with it and today is the first day when I've finally thought that I'm starting to feel properly better. It's been a hard slog, so debilitating. It's also coincided with a cold spell here, we've had harder frosts than we've had all winter. It takes quite a bit of energy to keep the fire going if you're not well. Fetching the wood, carrying it up to the cabin, building the fire and tending to it was exhausting as was making what felt a very long journey down to the toilet.
We must be improving though as we went out today, I managed to get a click and collect from Dundonnell, just across the Loch. Of course, just to keep us on our toes it had to be an easterly wind and the waves were quite large but we needed food so we set sail and it wasn't too bad. We got a bit wet on our return journey as while we were loading the boat at Badlaurach the waves were hitting the steps on the jetty and then flying up and landing on the shopping in the boat. We managed to load up quickly though and get back. Hector (our electric vehicle) makes light work of pulling the boat up. It's so much quicker than using the quad. We were very thankful to be home again.<
Because of covid and the cold weather I feel like we're a bit behind with everything. There's so many seeds still to plant but it's been too cold and we've been too ill. I did manage to pot on my sweet pea seedlings, the kohlrabi desperately need doing but we've run out of compost for the moment. Some of our tomatoes plants don't look very healthy, I think we put them in the polytunnel too early thinking spring had arrived. I've just ordered some organic feed for them in the hope that it'll perk them up a bit. I'm sure now that we're feeling better we'll catch up with everything. Rich has started to fence the garden off, we have regular visits from 3 roe deer and they're eating everything. The vegetable patch has got to be fenced in as otherwise it's not worth trying to grow anything. I did wonder while I was ill how we're ever going to manage to get everything done. We just have to keep going I suppose, one step at a time.
