Here on Scoraig, work has continued. I've dug up all of the potatoes now so we've a couple of sacks worth put away. The courgette plants have almost stopped producing so the two in the polytunnel I've dug up, put some fresh compost in the containers and planted some oriental winter salad leaves. The butternut squash plants are dying off, they've produced 3 squashes. They're quite small and not yet ripe but ok for a first attempt. The tomatoes have been a real success particularly the small ones which are really sweet. We've lots ripening at the moment so are eating them every day. My broccoli hasn't faired as well, even the plants under netting in the outside vegetable patch seem to have been eaten.
The toilet saga continues, I won't go into details.
The plasterboards are nearly all up in the cabin and Rich has plastered a couple of the walls. The ceiling is going to be a big challenge.
The female blackbird is looking much better. All the feathers around her neck have regrown and she seems much stronger. She decided to nip into the barn to pinch the catfood a few days ago. I'd gone into the house to put my bread in the oven leaving the barn door open and when I came back she was in, eating the cat food with Tabby looking over at her from the sleeping loft above.
Yesterday there was a sea otter in the garden. Rich saw it, I didn't unfortunately but that's the first one we know of that's been into the garden.
The days are shortening and darkness falls much faster. There's been some beautiful sunsets. I really want to get organised so that we can go out as little as possible over Winter. I'm hoping to do a Suma order and get as much as we can put away. I don't relish the thought of having to go out on the boat on dark cold mornings. Much better, to light the log burner and get up slowly.
The wood looks magical at the moment. There are lots of fly agaricus dotted around, it's been a really good year for them. We're working on cutting the gorse up to use on the log burner, we cut it down last winter and most of it is dry. We haven't got anything like the amount of wood put away that I'd hoped we'd have, there just doesn't seem to have been time. It'll be interesting to see how much wood we get through when we finally move into the cabin, it's better insulated than the barn so hopefully will stay warmer for longer. I'm really hoping we can be in before Christmas. Fingers crossed🤞
