34. Onward and Upward

We've been working hard and managed to get quite a bit done. We went to Inverness a couple of days ago and bought some more bags of sand and gravel. Yesterday I mixed the concrete by hand in the wheelbarrow then Rich laid it, we're doing the edges of the floor in the kitchen. This will act as support for the wooden frame for the internal walls. Between the stone and wooden frame will be filled with insulation. At the moment the plan is to put the bathroom where the second bedroom is. It won't be as big as the bedroom as we want to leave some of the floor space open to allow light from the window in the roof to flood into the kitchen space.

We've also made a plinth from concrete for the Rayburn to stand on. How we get the Rayburn onto the plinth will be worked out at a later date.
Rich has bought 2 cold water tanks, one is a feeder and expansion tank for the boiler and the other is for the cold water supply (hope that makes sense, Rich just dictated that bit!)

The weather has been really hot and dry (until today) so we did take a day off last week to find a beach. We found a deserted one nearby and bravely went for a swim. I think we managed about 20 seconds after 20 minutes plucking up the courage. It was freezing!

The female blackbird had managed to get in again, we found her on our return from the beach. Amazingly Tabby was also in but for some strange reason had left her alone. She was quite distressed but flew off happily when Rich carried her outside.

The garden is doing well, the honeysuckle is just starting to flower as is the fushia and the Rosa rugosa. I've been trying to spend 20 minutes each day weeding either in the garden or the croft. We're still battling with the brambles and the gorse.

Hoping for the wind to pick up soon, I think this is the longest period we've had when it's been so calm. The solar panels are still stacked in the lounge. Because of the shortage of power I've not been able to use the washing machine for the past month. I have done a bit of washing by hand but don't really fancy doing the bedding. Although the forecast has given out stronger winds over the next week so can hopefully catch up and will be able to change the bed as it's a bit sandy since we went to the beach.
