Although it's been really hot as it has in most of the country we've had enough rain for the grass to stay green and for everything to keep growing.
We've had a good crop of peas and still more to come. Our first cabbage is ready as is our kale and lettuce. The sweet peas we grew from seed continue to flower, it's lovely to have enough to be able to have some cut ones indoors. All of the nasturtiums are now flowering and the marigolds and love in a mist aren't far off. In the field at the side of the house we planted a couple of packs of wild flower seeds, some have managed to grow inbetween the chickweed, docs and various other plants. We'll strip it later in the year, rake the grass and hopefully continue to develop it next year. We'd like a meadow of wildflowers with a couple of pathways through it.

On the building front we've nearly finished the foundations for the cabin. I now carry the blocks up one at a time, carrying 2 in the wheelbarrow pulled my neck too much. We're also starting to get more ideas about what we want to do with the house. We're making it open plan downstairs and considering just having one bedroom upstairs, we'll have the byre and cabin for friends and family to stop in. It was windy enough to have the cement mixer on this morning so we did several mixes and completed the first section of the lounge floor. So things are moving on although the chances of being in the cabin by Christmas are not looking likely because we're also fitting in working on the house. It takes so long to get building materials here that you just have to learn to be patient and trust that eventually things will get done. And luckily we're still enjoying the process!! Do need to start working on our wood supply for winter though, there's still a long way to go with it.
