Work continues, we've just taken a large delivery of building materials, 3 pallets of concrete blocks (that's 264 altogether) 3 tonnes of sand and gravel and 30 lengths of wood. All to be carried down the jetty, loaded onto the boat, unloaded on the other side then loaded into the quad to home before being unloaded again. We can only do it in small manageable amounts otherwise it feels overwhelming. It does take an incredible amount of effort. Whilst the weather is calm we're trying to go out near high tide, we need to have the water high enough to be able to load and unload off both jetties.
I amazed even myself by devising a different way to carry the lengths of wood back on the quad. In the trailer they get knocked about particularly when we go uphill or round corners. We've now (well, Rich has) fastened a piece of wood across the front and back of the quad, we then balance the lengths of wood on each side of the quad. Makes getting on and off difficult but the wood travels much better. We now have all our wood over here and have made a start on the concrete blocks. The 3 tonnes of sand and gravel is still waiting patiently for its turn, because it's in ton bags we have to spend time putting into much smaller bags before we can bring it over and you can get too much of a good thing so we're having to pace ourselves!!
Yesterday for the first time ever we decided to have a full day off and go out on the boat just for fun. Instead of crossing the loch to Badlaurach we headed down the loch and landed on a small beach. Heavenly!! we even had a swim. We took about 20 minutes to get in deep enough then about 2 minutes actually swimming but a very exhilarating experience. We took a picnic, read and generally lazed around for a couple of hours. We're now much more confident with the boat but have to be careful not to be complacent. We pushed it in the other day and just as we did so Rich noticed we'd forgotten to put the bung in! Normally it's the first thing I do but somehow I completely forgot.
We're still really enjoying the garden, we've had our first crop of broad beans as well as some kale and some lettuce. The roses are all doing well, they smell divine. We're continuing to get rid of brambles and gorse. The weather is amazing although if it carries on much longer we'll be lucky to have any electricity, solar panels are a must as soon as possible.
Slow progress is being made and we're enjoying it.
