We've decided to push forward with building a cabin to live in and leave the renovation of the house a bit longer. We think we've chosen our site where hopefully we'll get a good view of the loch and also the mountains to the left of us. We spent most of today clearing it of gorse, it's growing everywhere. We'll keep it round the outer edge for protection but clear it elsewhere. Rich cut through the thick bits with his chainsaw, I then dragged the branches away to make a big pile ready for shredding or burning. I'm hoping we can really move on with it, it would be wonderful to have it done by Christmas but it's going to be hard work and I think Rich may be regretting saying it was a possibility.
We spent yesterday working on the polytunnel, we managed to get half the metal poles in place. We took it in turns to balance on the stepladder and hit the top of the pole with the blunt edge of the axe while the other person held the pole and checked it was going in straight with the spirit level. It took a long time but we are halfway there.
I've planted some gladioli bulbs in the garden and Rich has sown beetroot, pea and leek seeds so there's lots happening. I'm still sawing the wood from the house to burn, we're lighting the fire most mornings for an hour or so. I'm also mindful that we need to get our wood supply sorted for next winter and intend to put some time into filling the woodstore. How you manage to get enough wood put away for the whole winter I've no idea, I sometimes struggle to get enough for a day! I need to be more determined. We're still enjoying it though, the beauty of the place is overwhelming (as well as the amount of work!)
