After trying to walk out to Badrallach a couple of days ago and not managing to get the car out because of the snow, we're now waiting. We've still got snow as much of the country has and the uphill road from Badrallach is only a single track so probably doesn't warrant being cleared. We've been getting daily updates from Jo (the lady who helped us try to get the car out).
We've also realised our car is rubbish in the snow, it couldn't even get up where we had cleared. With hindsight we would have been better leaving the car parked over the loch. We were erring on the side of caution because of the high winds and thought we might not get across the water. So we're now waiting, we're down to our last 2 toilet rolls so hoping it won't be too long. It's good practice at being in the moment, enjoying what we have. That's not to say I'm finding it easy. We'd a table booked in Derbyshire today to celebrate our wedding anniversary, a wonderful French restaurant where we had our meal after the ceremony. A family get together on Saturday is also looking doubtful.
We now know we need to be better prepared. We've gone through all the wood I've cut because we've had the fire lit constantly so that's my first job of the day. We also need to keep more food in, I didn't buy as much because we were going away so we're now having to be inventive. We did order some bread and a tin of beans from the local shop which came over with the post-boat.
So I'm trying not to feel sorry for myself, I know I'm very fortunate and my lovely husband has just called me outside to see the beautiful sunrise. The beauty of this place helps me to keep things in perspective. Luckily we have got some dried foodstuffs, beans, millet and cous cous. There's still a few potatoes and a leek plus the only items I've bought so far for Christmas, an enormous bit of brie and some brandy cream. The bottle of Baileys has already been started (for medicinal purposes).

We've also realised the importance of growing stuff for ourselves which we'd planned to do anyway but Rich is now considering building a polytunnel as soon as he can next year. Also the more stuff we can grow, the less we have to carry in. We're also considering keeping hens, getting eggs here intact is a bit of a nightmare. I haven't broken any yet but it's been close. I usually have them in the top of my rucksack and walk up with them, they wouldn't stand a chance in the trailer.
I've put up a few decorations up and with the fairy lights on and the fire roaring it feels very festive. I would like to get out though to see family and friends before Christmas so it's fingers crossed for later in the week.
